Addiction Rehab in Pune - A Quick Fix Solution to Pain.

As one listens to the old song, “Log kehte hain, mein sharabi hoon”, picturized on the legendary actor and beautifully yet painfully enacted by, Mr. Amitabh Bacchan, one cannot help but feel sympathy towards the character Vicky Kapoor, the boy, the man, who was forever felt neglected by his businessman (busy-ness) father Mr.Kapoor. While some might feel sympathy, there are others who might elicit the feeling of disgust, some might condone and shame the behaviour, while others might even label him, as a spoilt brat-someone privy to far too many choices, at their disposal with no caretaker.

Let’s reread the last bit, “someone privy to far too many choices, at their disposal with no caretaker”; the point not to be neglected, not to be overlooked and to be paid attention to is NO
CARETAKER.

Being a part of the Social Specie, it’s our first physical and psychological requirement, to feel belonged, to feel connected, which makes us feel safe and secure; and if we understand our psychological (emotional and mental) requirements, which is inherently connected with our biology (body), we would understand, that humans go to great lengths to feel relevant, to not feel neglected- for the feeling of neglect instigates, feelings of abandonment, feelings of being unwanted, feelings of unworthiness, feelings of being a burden, feelings of undesirability etc. So when we say, “Everything’s fair in Love and War”, war implying hatred, what we inherently are implying is that, ‘Humans can tolerate love and bloodshed (hatred), what we cannot tolerate is INDIFFERENCE, for it puts a question on our Existence- the reason for our existence, if we have at any point in time experienced abandonment, feelings of being unwanted, feelings of unworthiness, feelings of being a burden, feelings of undesirability, feeling of being disconnected & felt unloved.
It is during these psychological wounds, which unfortunately are invisible and implicit, that our behaviours in the forms of many addictions right from alcohol, to nicotine, to opioids, to social media, to fame, to gambling, to porn, to sex, to power, to caffeine, to work, to food, to shopping, to relationships, reveal themselves; and it is during these times, that we need to ask:-
“What is it that’s hurting?”
“What is it that we are trying to fix?”
“What pain is it that we are trying to avoid by overdoing something else?” “What’s the need that still needs to be met?”
“What’s the meaning that I have given to my pain that has made no meaning so far, which has led me to distractions, rather than meaningful engagements?”
Are we willing to take a look at this pain, not alone but together, are we willing to reconnect by seeking help, by speaking about it, by addressing it and not by repressing it, so that we are not enslaved to our unhealthy habits, but rather we become the choosers and creators of them?
There’s no way we can change something, if we don’t acknowledge and try and understand it.
